CAIRN TRAVELER VLOG | EP 28
Check out this week’s short tech review on this amazing game-changer for my mobile internet setup!! I’m switching my iPad Pro sim over to a mobile hotspot in order to maintain a constant internet connection for the Airstream.
While I finally found a truly unlimited carrier plan with AT&T’s FirstNet (https://www.firstnet.com), the problem still remains that I have continued to use my phone as my primary hotspot. In addition to the fact that I take the internet away any time I leave (disrupting downloads, uploads, etc. on the home computer - MacBook Pro), mobile device hotspots also have a notoriously difficult time maintaining a constant connection - i.e. the hotspot “goes to sleep” when not in use - and you end up having to rejoin the the hotspot multiple times a day. There are also devices such as the XBOX that make this more difficult since they don’t automatically remember the network and password. Moving to a Netgear Nighthawk for a constant hotspot connection finally eliminates these issues. While Starlink (https://www.starlink.com) is hopefully coming to RVs down the line (my end-game here), this is a big improvement for now!
